Indonesian curry, Gurai
Like its Southeast Asian neighbors, Indonesia has plenty of curry and curry-style dishes.
A thick coconut-flavored soup curry is called Gulai, and the spices used are slightly different from the curry.
Depending on the ingredients used, the name may be changed to “Gulai XX.”
Tunjang is a Padang word for beef leg, so gulai tunjang means beef leg curry.
Creamy, mild and spicy
When it comes to curry with coconut milk, there’s a distinct sweetness and creaminess, but the spices are also strong enough to make this soup curry mild yet rich and spicy.
It also contains beef’s Achilles tendon, or cow’s foot, an ingredient that Japanese people may not be familiar with. I recommend it to people who have become comfortable with Indonesian food.
There are still other coconut milk curries available, so if you want to try them out, try them out.
We will continue to introduce Indonesian cuisine on an irregular basis.
